Wazza steps down, but up!
15th January 2009
Warren McWhirter has been chosen to lead the Wests Illawarra FC Youth grade for the new season.
“Wazza” who last year led the reserve grade side within 2 games of a grand final has agreed to take the youth job on in a changed makeup of the IFA competitions. He will be assisted by former Wests and Figtree player Brett Barklay.
Season 2009 will see WIFC only fielding 2 sides in the new format. This being First grade and under 20’s. The under 20’s will also allow to field 3 overage players in any game. This will now provide any youth grade players at the club an opportunity to now compete directly with 1st grade players for places on the weekend.
The youth grade side from last season were successful in winning there league and Warren is keen to continue on in its winning way. However his main aim in taking the job is to develop these players technically and tactically for the good of Wests Illawarra Football Club.
The WIFC Executive was very pleased with the way Warren went about his business in coaching Reserve grade. He was able to call upon Youth grade players to help him out and they responded very well to him. This is an important thing when appointing coaches in any new season that your players can respond and work well with the new coach.
