Wests Illawarra Finally Get Their Man

14th January 2009

After three months in search of a new Head Coach, Wests Illawarra Football Club can officially announce that Julio Miranda will lead the club into the 2009 season.

Miranda had previously guided Balgownie Rangers into the playoff series against Woonona in last season’s competition only to fall short in the two legged final for promotion to the Illawarra Premier League. He has had 3 successful seasons at “Bally” and in each season they have qualified for the finals series.

Julio had a successful playing stint spanning 15 years and played for clubs such as Bulli, Olympic and Warilla to name a few.
Most recently he has been involved in the Football NSW coaching academies that are run in the Wollongong area.

In announcing Julio Miranda’s appointment the WIFC Football Committee were very happy to have secured their number one target.
“Julio brings with him a wealth of playing and coaching experience across all grades and its now up to the players to respond to Julio when they report for pre season in January” they added “its no secret that we were a little disappointed with where we finished up in 2008”
The Football club decided that there was to be a change in the coaching setup for the 2009 season and after a month of meetings with Julio it was agreed that he would come across to take charge of the “Mighty Devils”

WIFC Executives would like to thank Chris Dunleavy for his great effort over the 4 years with the club (3 as Head Coach). “Let’s not forget that Chris took over first grade in season 2006 in difficult circumstances when the then incumbent coach stepped down at Round 6 after a very disappointing start to the season”.

We wish Chris all the best in his future endeavours.
